Dare drove me back to the trail. It was hard saying goodbye.
My pack was heavy with food and water. It’ll be five days before I can re-supply and 25 miles to the next water source. The based weight of my pack is 14 pounds but with food and water it weighs 35 pounds starting out today.
I haven’t traveled more than 7 or 8 miles when I came to highway 58. There I found two caches of water of about 15 and 20 gallons each that trail angels had put near the trail. I also met a trail angel who offered me food and beverage and anything else I needed at the parking area near the freeway overpass.
I climbed up about 3000 feet and another 10 miles. From up here I could see the Mojave Desert and more windmills.
I developed some abdominal pain and cut the day short. Found a nice campsite out of the wind. Later on five other campers joined me. Our goals and speed seem to be similar so I’m going to try to stick with them for a few days.
