6/7/18. Arose with the sun to a beautiful clear day in the High Sierras. Got on the trail a little after 6 AM. Symptoms of high altitude sickness have significantly improved but have not yet fully adapted to the altitude. Hiked 16 miles between 9500 feet and 11,300 feet.
The trail goes to the west side of Mount Whitney. Many PCT hikers climb it. Since I was still struggling with some altitude symptoms and have already summitted it four times I hiked on toward Forrester Pass at 13100 feet. It will be my challenge for the next two days.
There is still a lot of snow in the High Sierras. Additional equipment I brought to deal with the snow; micro spikes, large basket for trekking poles and an ice ax.
I am now in Sequoia National Park. While traveling in the back country you are required to store your food in a bear canister.
